One of the main problems faced by women and men alike is the issue of weight. Losing weight and gaining weight differs from person to person as we have different body structures, we tend to react to food differently and we have different metabolism rates.

Losing weight can be such a nuisance as it involves change in one’s lifestyle and eating habits which one has been accustomed to for a long time. The best way to deal with weight loss or gain is to see a nutritionist or dietician.

For those that are trying to keep fit, eat well and generally lose weight some tips I would advise are:

1. Don’t skip breakfast

Breakfast is one meal that should not be skipped as it provides the body with all the necessary nutrients and prevents you from having to eat more than you or your body need later on during the day.

2. Don’t eat fatty foods

Fatty foods only help in the increase of fat in your body. To lose weight means no fatty foods e.g fries or any food that is oily and has high fat contents.

3. Don’t drink carbonated drinks

To lose weight one has to stick to natural juices, home-made or from the store and reduce the consumption of carbonated drinks.

4. Don’t drink alcohol or reduce your alcohol consumption

Alcohol only increases the chances of gaining weight and it is very much advisable to stay away from it.

5. Drink lots of water

Sometimes we tend to “feel” hungry when in actual fact we are thirsty. Water is a very important component of our body and it is necessary in keeping fit and being healthy.

6. Eat lots of fruits or vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain all the nutrients, minerals and vitamins that our bodies need. So instead of eating that oily fried sausage or chocolate try an apple or any other fruit or some raw vegetables.

7. If you can’t manage sticking to the 3 times a day meals (breakfast before 11, lunch at 1pm and supper at 6pm) then eat in between meals that are in small sizes.

8. Exercise

You don’t have to go out of your way at the gym or jogging but exercise is good for the body and it helps prevent heart diseases.

As said earlier losing weight differs depending on our bodies and metabolism rates so know your body well; what makes you gain weight, what are you allergic to atc.

Visit a dietician or nutritionist, and remember losing weight requires discipline, determination and self control. Stay away from diet pills, slimming teas as they only have side effects on your body as time goes on.
